gumshoo Wins Honorable Mention in eBay Developer Challenge 2006
San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) March, 20 2006
Online eBay search service, gumshoo (http://www.gumshoo.com) was awarded honorable mention in the eBay Developer Challenge 2006. Supported in part by O'Reilly Media, Inc., the competition judged applications on uniqueness and innovation, demo-readiness and suitability for the eBay marketplace. Contest winners were announced March 7, 2006 at the O'Reilly Emerging Technology Conference in San Diego, CA.
"We're excited by the level of innovation and ingenuity that all of the entrants demonstrated," said Greg Isaacs, director of the eBay Developers Program. "The eBay Developer Challenge 2006 winners offer buyers and sellers the ability to access the eBay marketplace from wherever they might be, extending the eBay platform in ways previously unimagined. They are all great examples of how innovative developers and affiliates can create viable businesses using eBay Web Services while taking the eBay user experience to a whole new level." Gumshoo was recognized for creating "an AJAX application that remixes eBay data to provide a fresh interface to the marketplace," said Isaacs.
"We're delighted to receive this honor from eBay," said Craig Villamor, President of gumshoo's parent, VisibleOffice, LLC. "Our site offers eBay shoppers a unique and valuable alternative to the eBay shopping experience. We're happy that eBay has recognized our efforts and contribution to the eBay community."
gumshoo Launches Anti-Fraud Search for eBay Ireland and eBay India
9 Mar 2006
Following closely on the heels of their successful launch of gumshoo (http://www.gumshoo.com) for eBay's US, UK, Australian and Canadian marketplaces, VisibleOffice, LLC announces support for eBay Ireland and eBay India.
The gumshoo service provides eBay shoppers with a free alternative to finding items listed on eBay. gumshoo offers its users search capabilities not found on eBay's own site such as the ability to filter out accessories, used items, and so called "junk listings". gumshoo's most sophisticated feature provides risk analysis on individual auctions that alert users to potential problems before they bid. The service analyzes seller reputation, item details, item location and shipping information among others.
"We're excited to offer a simpler, safer and smarter way to shop eBay for our customers in Ireland and India. Our site has been tremendously popular in each country we support and we expect the same of the Ireland and India marketplaces" said Craig Villamor, President of VisibleOffice, LLC. "Problem sellers exist in every marketplace. gumshoo was created to help any eBay shopper find great deals while avoiding common pitfalls that turn good deals into deals gone bad. We're committed to providing this service to the global eBay community."
gumshoo is available free of charge to all eBay shoppers.

Logo2.0 - gumshoo makes the cut in a collage of Web2.0 Startup logos
We found ourselves on Flickr, both literally and figuratively. Flickr user Stabilo Boss has assembled logos for startups in the Web2.0 space. By this, we assume he means that whole AJAX thing. In any event, we're happy to be a part of the list. We think the gumshoo logo is the best looking one in the collage, if we do say so ourselves.

VisibleOffice Announces Gumshoo.com Shopping Engine to Combat eBay Fraud
25 Nov 2005San Mateo, CA, USA, November 25, 2005 - Today VisibleOffice, LLC announced the immediate availability of gumshoo.com, a free Web service aimed at combating eBay fraud.
"Shopping on eBay is somewhat riskier than shopping with traditional retailers," said Craig Villamor, President of VisibleOffice. "There are plenty of great deals on eBay. Unfortunately, there are also some dishonest sellers out there who are looking to take advantage of buyers, especially during the holidays. Gumshoo.com gives every eBay shopper the information they need to make more informed, and therefore, safer buying decisions."
Visitors to www.gumshoo.com will see a simple interface, similar to that of Google, Yahoo! or MSN Search. After entering a few keywords, such as "Ipod Nano" or "Louis Vuitton handbag", the service searches eBay and filters out auctions it determines have "questionable" content. "We filter out auctions that contain words or phrases commonly associated with fraud," said Villamor. "There's no point in showing our users an ad for the latest work at home scheme just because it also happened to match the phrase 'Star Wars'."
eBay auctions viewed through the gumshoo.com service are automatically scanned for a variety of risk indicators including seller reputation, location and suspicious item descriptions among others. When the service finds potential risks, it informs the seller through four categories of alerts and advises them on how to proceed. "We're providing our customers with the information and advice they need to become expert eBay shoppers and avoid becoming victims of fraud. No other Web site provides this kind of information to eBay's shoppers," Villamor said. "We think that every eBay shopper deserves to be informed of potential risks before they bid."
Gumshoo.com is currently in beta and is available, free of charge, at www.gumshoo.com.
