Technical Support

Thank you for using gumshoo™. We are committed to making everyone's eBay shopping experience safer and more efficient. If you have had any difficulty with the site, please review the common technical questions and solutions listed below.

Q: I saved some searches on my home computer, but now I'm at work and they're all gone. What happened?

gumshoo™ uses cookies to save your searches. That means that your searches are saved on a per computer basis. We do this so that our users don't have to register in order to save a search. We will periodically revisit the decision to use cookies instead of registration and make adjustments in the future as necessary.

Q: I don't see any search results / I can't go to eBay from gumshoo™.

Please be sure that you are running a recent version of one of the following Web browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox or Netscape. Older browsers may not display search results properly. If you are running any Internet security software, such as Symantec, make sure that your software is configured to allow connections to gumshoo.com, mediaplex.com and cgi.ebay.com. You may also want to make sure that you are searching in 'All Categories'.

Q: I'm using the latest version of Internet Explorer, but I still don't see search results / can't go to eBay.

Please check your Internet Explorer Security Settings to ensure that Active Scripting is enabled:
  • From the Internet Explorer menu bar select Tools > Internet Options...
(An Internet Options dialog window will appear)
  • Select the Security tab
  • Click the Custom Level... button
  • Scroll to the Settings section labeled Active Scripting and click the Enable radio
  • Click OK
  • Click OK again
Your browser should now be able to display content.

If you are using Firefox or Netscape, please go to the Tools menu, select Options and make sure that the Enable Javascript checkbox is checked.

Q: I'm using Firefox and I still don't see any search results / can't go to eBay.

Check to see if you have the Adblock extension installed (Tools > Extensions). If so, you may be blocking some URLs that are required in order to display gumshoo™ search results. Please ensure that you are not blocking URLs which contain adfarm.mediaplex, lapi.ebay, thumbs.ebaystatic, cj.com, or commissionjunction.com (for more info on why these are required, please see how we make money).

You can remove these entries from Adblock by going to the Tools menu in Firefox and selecting Adblock > Preferences. From the Preferences window, right-click each URL you would like to remove and select Delete from the menu. Click Done when finished.

You may also want to ensure that you have not installed the Adblock Filterset.G Updater extension because it may re-block these URLs on it's next update. To remove this extention go to the Tools menu in Firefox and select Extensions. In the Extensions window, click on Adblock Filterset.G Updater and then click the Uninstall button. Close and re-open your browser.

Q: I'm using some other browser you didn't mention here and it doesn't work.

We're adding support for browsers as quickly as we can. Unfortunately, we cannot support all browsers, but we will try to support many of them. You can help us in this effort! If you have a favorite browser and you've experienced problems, please contact us with details about your OS, browser, and the specific problem you had.

Q: Does your site install any spyware / malware?

No. gumshoo™ doesn't install any applications on your computer. We're committed to protecting the personal information of our users. We don't even have registration! We think most users want to avoid unnecessary registratons whenever they can and we know users expect to have their personal information protected.

Q: Does your site use cookies?

Yes. gumshoo™ uses cookies to store your recent and saved searches. This is true of most Web sites you may visit, such as Google, Yahoo!, Amazon and eBay. As an eBay Affiliate, gumshoo™ also uses cookies to let eBay know that we sent you to their site. This is how we get paid. None of the cookies we use contain any personally identifiable information. We don't collect any personally identifiable information and therefore we can't store or share any in cookies.

Q: But I really hate cookies. Can't I use gumshoo™ without the cookies?

At this time, you must have cookies enabled in order to use our site. We are currently gauging interest in a fee-based service that would allow our users to have access to the site without the use of affiliate cookies. If you are interested in such a service, please let us know.

Q: You still didn't solve my problem. Now what?

We're sorry that these solutions didn't work for you. If you are still experiencing problems, please contact us. Try to explain the problem in as much detail as you can. What were you searching for? Is the problem constant or intermittent? Are you using a supported browser?
